Ashley & Vance Engineering, Inc.

Ashley & Vance Engineering, Inc. is seeking a qualified individual to join our team for an entry-level structural engineering position in our San Luis Obispo or Santa Barbara offices.  Winter or Spring graduates only. The position will be part-time (very flexible) until graduation and full-time thereafter.

Ashley & Vance Engineering is an established and growing firm that provides Civil and Structural Engineering services in California and the Pacific Northwest. We pride ourselves not only on the quality of service we provide, but on the people that make up our firm.  

Candidate will be working on various residential and commercial projects utilizing conventional wood framing, steel, masonry & concrete from initial concept throughout construction. Candidate should be familiar with applicable California Building Codes.

Basic Qualifications:
B.S. degree in Architectural Engineering or 
Civil Engineering (w/ Structural Emphasis).

Candidates should highlight any related experience in:
• framing layout & design
• foundation design
• preparation of plans & details
• interfacing with clients, contractors & government agencies

Ability to clearly and professionally communicate directly with clients is required. Candidate must work well independently or in a team atmosphere with other A/E/C design professionals and contractors.

Project Engineer:
 
This position is an entry level position that allows the engineer to immediately start structural design. They have a wide range of responsibilities including:
- Producing structural framing layouts, calculations, designs, and details accurately and in a timely manner.
- Performing and coordinating CAD drafting

Successful candidates will be:
- Skilled in:  structural engineering techniques, engineering software, code interpretation, leadership, and customer relations.
- Driven to succeed personally, professionally, and corporately.
- Flexible, with the ability work on all aspects of a given project

Candidates for this position must demonstrate they have:
- BS in Architectural Engineering
- 0 years of experience – we will train you.
- A desire to obtain their professional engineering license.
- AutoCAD 2013 (or newer) 2D experience.
- Proficient knowledge of MS Office and Adobe products, especially MS Excel.
- A good working knowledge of the 2013 CBC.
- Good communication skills with an ability to communicate in

Project Manager:
 
This position requires the utilization of skills and knowledge obtained through prior work experience. Project Managers have a wide range of responsibilities including:
- Daily interaction with 4 S.T.E.L. clients and ensuring their satisfaction.
- Developing and nourishing customer relationships.
- Producing structural framing layouts, calculations, designs, and details accurately and in a timely manner.
- Performing and coordinating CAD drafting
- Coordinating with other engineering staff for project completion.
 
Successful candidates will be:
- Skilled in:  structural engineering techniques, engineering software, code interpretation, leadership, and customer relations.
- Driven to succeed personally, professionally, and corporately.
- Flexible, with the ability work on all aspects of a given project

Candidates for this position must demonstrate they have:
- BS in Architectural Engineering
- 5+ years of structural engineering experience.
- PE in CA.
- Management experience with the ability to lead and provide direction to a team.
- AutoCAD 2013 (or newer) 2D experience.
- Proficient knowledge of MS Office and Adobe products, especially MS Excel.
- A good working knowledge of the 2013 CBC.
- Good communication skills with an ability to communicate in English
- A desire to learn and expand your knowledge base.
- DSA ground up construction design experience
- Commercial ground up design experience

Applicants must have 4-10 years of experience and a PE license in the State of California.  We are looking for people with strong analytical skills who are able to communicate ideas and solve problems using both hand and computer analysis.  Practical detailing skills and the ability to clearly communicate and coordinate with other disciplines is important to us. 

 

Job Requirements

BS Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering required MS preferred

5 years minimum experience of building design with a CA PE license

Experience using Revit a plus

Experience with ETABS a plus

Work experience with DSA and/or OSHPD a plus
