2015 SEAOC Annual Convention

SEP 9, 2015 - SEP 11, 2015

Every year, several students from the Architectural Engineering department attend the SEAOC Annual Convention, which hosts a variety of speakers and seminars. The convention is an incredible opportunity to network with Structural Engineering professionals. Each year, four board members from Cal Poly’s student chapter of SEAOC attend the convention to learn how to apply newly acquired knowledge and skills to Cal Poly’s chapter of SEAOC. This year, Nick Petrarca (President), Emily Setoudeh (Vice President), Natalie Gibbons (Forum Chair) and Sean Westphal (Treasurer) attended the 2015 SEAOC Convention in Bellevue, Washington (September 9th– September 11th).  Additional SEAOC members Nate Hall, Kenneth Alcazar, Kendall Johnson and Dani Rustagi accompanied them.

During the three-day event, our ARCE students were asked to help the Convention Committee direct traffic, collect tickets and orchestrate the logistics of the various dinners and events. Our students attended the “All Around the World Cruise” themed dinner on Thursday night, hosted by Young Member Forum (YMF), and on Friday night, they visited the Chihuly Gardens for the annual CSI Party hosted by Ashraf Habibullah. Also on Friday, our students attended a presentation in honor of September 11th, honoring the structural engineers who worked on the World Trade Center Twin Towers.
