Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI)
The Earthquake Engineering Research Institute as a whole focuses on education and research for seismic design concepts in the structural engineering field. One event which draws the attention and hearts of young engineering students is the Annual Undergraduate Seismic Design Competition(SDC).
Every year the Cal Poly EERI SDC Team designs, analyzes, builds, and tests a 5' tall balsa wood high rise model to compete in the international competition. The teams are judged on their model/design, poster, oral presentation, and how accurately their predicted acceleration values match the ones obtained during shaking.
The club is comprised primarily of architectural engineering and civil engineering undergraduate students. Everyone with an interest is encouraged to join.
