Parents and Family Weekend 2015
10.23.15 - 10.24.15
Every year during Cal Poly Parent & Family Weekend, the ARCE department hosts its own weekend-long event filled with festivities. Our freshman students and their parents attend the Architecture Department parent reception where they get the opportunity to showcase the first couple weeks of their studio work. On Friday night, Al Estes addressed the group of parents and welcomed the students and their parents to the program. Then our esteemed professor, Ed Saliklis, gave a mini lecture on Fazlur Khan’s role in Architectural Engineering history. His lecture focused on the John Hancock Center and Willis Tower in Chicago, where he explained the role of creative thinking in Architectural Engineering and our ability to combine our right brain and left brain in our professional field. The finale for the night was a performance from the department band, “Professor S and the Stress.”
On Saturday, our student chapter of SEAOC grilled tri-tip for our annual Parent & Family Weekend barbecue, which was a unique opportunity for ARCE families to meet and greet the professors and grab some great food! The department also sponsored family photos in the courtyard, which are great souvenirs from a weekend visiting students. Parents participated in a raffle and several attendees won free ARCE t-shirts. SEAOC also unveiled new ARCE merchandise which was popular with parents and students alike!
