Poly Canyon Clean Up
APR 30, 2016
On Saturday April 30th, the Canyon Days committee and volunteers teamed up for a day of rebuilding and restoring Poly Canyon.
Canyon Days is a club whose goal is to restore Poly Canyon to its former glory, and is primarily made up of ARCE students. Poly Canyon is home to more than 20 unique structures that were created though a collaboration of CAED students. Some of these structures were once habitable, with running water and working electricity. Many generations of students have worked on projects in the canyon, some dating back to 1964.
This Saturday, volunteers helped out with a number of jobs, from doing landscaping around the structures, to replacing parts of structures that were falling apart. Volunteering started at 9am, with a BBQ lunch break at noon and with cleanup finishing around 3pm. After volunteering, Kevin Dong, CAED Associate Dean and faculty supervisor, invited all the volunteers out for pizza to thank them for all their hard work.
“Canyon Days moves us one step closer to providing future students an opportunity to experience what alumni have experienced in the past,” said Dong, “a rich and memorable Learn by Doing experience.”
